About 100 students from Apii Avarua yesterday took part in quick rip rugby sessions which is part of the new healthy living sports programme.

The sessions were conducted by Cook Islands Rugby Union development manager Ben Koteka and Pomare Pittman.

The purpose of this seven-week programme is to educate the youth of the Cook Islands on healthy living and the importance of an active lifestyle.

The programme has about 1000 students from Year 9 to 13 participating.

St Joseph’s Primary School Year 4-5 and Apii Avarua’s Year 5-6 students will be taking part in Monday’s session.

The programme is a combined effort of Cook Islands Sports and National Olympic Committee, Cook Islands Rugby Union, New Zealand Rugby and Oceania Rugby.
