Visiting teams are top seeds in sevens

The visiting Kerikeri and Tasman teams from New Zealand are the top seeds in The Edgewater U16 College Sevens Tournament which starts tomorrow at Arorangi Field.


Kerikeri is the top seed in boys Pool A which has Atiu College and Titikaveka College while Tasman is the top seed in Pool B. Tereora College, Araura College and Nukutere College are the other teams in Pool B.

In the under-17 girl’s competition, Kerikeri will lead the charge against Tereora College and Nukutere College.

The tournament starts at 3pm tomorrow.



Kerikeri High School – the U15 boys were in the top 15 school at 2017 Condors, and top 10 in Condors 2018. The team have been helped by ex-New Zealand rugby 7s legend Eric Rush who has two older boys attending Kerikeri High School.

Atiu College – to be led by their manager Mrs Nan Roberts and coach Joshua Jim. They are excited with this opportunity to participate in this College tournament with eight of their players home grown while four are Rarotonga-based players.  They have received extra coaching support from the U18 Cook Islands Sevens players Brian and Tangi Akava. Squad – Jacques Boaza , Ethan George, Temaeva George, Enere Mingi, Jireh Paratainga, Ezekiela Patukura, Junior Tipoki, Nathan Aberahama, Willie Rani, Brayden Kamana, Haba Tamarua.

Aitutaki – This full home grown team will be ready to unleash some Araura magic this weekend and will be led by (2016 and 2017) U15 Cook Islands Sevens rep Calem Katu. Squad – Aria Hoff, Karani Taputoa, , Marshall Tuaretini, Robert Kiria Jnr, Temarama upoko Rio, Ioane Tom, Calem Katu, Alex  Vaasa, Ruateaku  Joseph, Keni. Rota, Rongo Tepaki, Albani Kamoe

Kerikeri High (U15 girls) – they are the Condors 2017 winners. Eight of these girls represent Northland in rugby. Sqauad – Andrea Cotton (vice-captain), K’lee Going, Avalon Strang, Barbara Kuruleca, Charlotte McCondach, Eva Fulton, Grace Stewart, Kahleah Nathan, Manaia Webb, Mia Anderson (Captain), Rangimaria (injures but travelling).
