Government minister George Maggie proved action speaks louder than voice when he presented a cheque to support the Tupapa Sevens club yesterday.

The “Action Man” presented a cheque of $3242 to Tupapa Sports Association president Tere Strickland to help them secure new uniforms for the two Tupapa teams that will participate in the upcoming Cook Islands International Sevens tournament.

Tupapa is the defending champion of the annual event which will be held in the opening weekend of November.

In presenting the cheque, Maggie said the donation was nothing to do with politics but his ongoing support for the club. He said he had a passion for rugby and other sports as he had represented Tupapa and the country in the past.

“This is not the first time I have supported Tupapa Sports Association as the MP of Tupapa. But this is the biggest amount I have given to them and in future, we will be handing them more funds to help them with their plans,” Maggie said. “I have a passion for sports, youth, my village and the people and I will keep supporting them.”

In accepting the donation, Strickland said the support was timely as the team was gearing up for the upcoming Sevens event.
