Ruck and mauls returns to fields as rugby clubs get set for the start of the 2015 rugby union season which kicks off next week.

Club athletes have been back on the rugby pitch familiarising themselves with the rules of rugby union after the recent rugby league season.

Standard of play as well as field presentation are set to be lifted this season thanks to the contribution by this season’s new main sponsor, The Bond Store.

The Bond Store Rarotonga club 15s season kicks off on Saturday June 20 and will see clubs field senior A and senior B grades along with under 19, under 16, under 14 and under 12 age grade teams.

Each grade also has a sponsor including Toa Gas, Captain Tama’s Lagoon Cruises and Palace Takeaways.

As well as the regular Saturday 15s club games, the 2015 season will be busy as usual with Monday to Friday rugby activities to be rolled out through the season.

These include the Telecom Cook Islands Primary Schools Rippa Rugby Tournament, Cook Islands Printing Services College 7s for the under 13, under 15 and under 17 age grades.

Three touring age grade school rugby teams from the UK and New Zealand will also be visiting and providing junior rugby players with a great opportunity to further develop their game.

The Cook Islands Games 7s will be staged August followed by The Bond Store Corporate 7s in October, leading into the main Cook Islands International Sevens Tournament to run from November 5 to 7.

Looking to the start of the club rugby season, the first round of games will be held at the Avatiu Swamp between Avatiu and the visiting Arorangi Cowboys, at the Happy Valley field where Takuvaine will host Titikaveka and at Victoria Park where Tupapa will meet Ngatangiia-Matavera.
