Sevens training starts, club rugby 15s returns

Newly appointed national men’s rugby sevens coach Chad Tuoro will be running a training session this Wednesday for all interested players at the Nikao field starting at 5pm.

Tuoro is back on Rarotonga to get the ball rolling on the Cooks national team’s preparation for the Oceania sevens tournament to be held in Fiji on October 4 and 5.

The tournament in Fiji will second as a qualifier event for the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games.

All interested players and supporters are encouraged to get along to the Nikao field with your boots and show the new coach you have what it takes to represent our island in the sport of rugby sevens.

Meanwhile, the club rugby 15s competition returns this week after a break for the constitution sevens tournament.

This is week 7 of the 2013 season and as the competition heads into the business end of the season, competition is heating up among clubs as they jostle for top four placings.

This week the Avatiu Eels will take on country opponents the Ngatangiia-Matavera Dragons while the Titikaveka Bulls will locks horns with the Tupapa Panthers.

The impressive Takuvaine Reds will rumble with their Arorangi Cowboys from the west.

With the women’s social sevens tournament kicking off on Wednesday and a visiting under 19 team from Whitgift College in the UK touring Rarotonga this week and playing a match against local opponents on Thursday – it’s shaping up to be another busy and exciting week of rugby in the island.
