After being postponed in the final week of term one due to bad weather, the 2018 Vaka Iti competition was held yesterday at Vaiana’s in Nikao.

Teams representing Tereora College, Titikaveka College, Imanuela Akatemia, Apii Te Uki Ou and Nukutere College all took part in the day’s races in picture-perfect paddling weather.

Students from these schools started training in February, with help from competition organisers who ran both practical and theoretical lessons in preparation for yesterday’s regatta.

Bank of South Pacific once again sponsored the event and provided race shirts and caps for all competitors as well as prizes for the day’s winners.

Last year’s winners were Nukutere College, however at the time of going to print the final results for yesterday were not known and will follow in tomorrow’s edition of CI News.
