Table tennis players will spearhead Team Mangaia’s campaign at the upcoming Cook Islands Games.

Team official Tangi Kauvarevai said they would be fielding more than 300 athletes and officials at the Games to be held from October 3 to 17. The southern group island will compete in all 24 codes.

The team is also getting more than 20 athletes and supporters from the island.

“Most of them will be competing in the table tennis competition, as well as darts, tennis, touch rugby, and volleyball,” Kauvarevai said.

“We don’t have any stars in our team, just the raw island talents representing us at these Games.”

Kauvarevai said the code managers were looking after the team preparation, adding the athletes are excited and looking forward to the Games.

“We will do our best to win medals for the island. The medals are there waiting for us, we just need to push hard to get to them.”

Team Mangaia held a golf ambrose fundraiser last week and Kauvarevai thanked everyone who took part in the event.
