Sixty-two players are competing from 13 Pacific countries – American Samoa, Cook Islands. Fiji, Federated States of Micronesia, Kiribati, Norfolk Island, Northern Marianas Islands, Nauru, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tahiti, Tuvalu, and Vanuatu.
There are 14 men’s teams divided into four pools. The top two teams in each pool will advance to the quarter finals. The remaining teams will play off for the 9th-14th positions
In the women’s competition, there are nine teams in two pools with the top two teams in each pool advancing through to the semi-finals and the remaining five teams playing off for 5th to 9th positions.
The results of the Cook Islands matches are as follows:
Cook Islands Men-Vanuatu: Number two singles Jason Pierre battled the Fiji heat as well as his opponent from Vanuatu. After three hours of gruelling heat Jason Pierre went down to Noah Molbelea in three sets 2-6, 6-4, 4-6. Top singles player Brett Baudinet also had a battle with the Fiji heat and a tough opponent. Brett Baudinet battled to the very end going down in the third set 3-6, 6-1, 4-6 to Zachary Sands of Vanuatu. In the doubles – Baudinet and Pierre were up one set to none and leading one-zero in the second set but it just wasn’t their day, they retired and bowed out of the doubles due to injury.
Cook Islands Women-Tuvalu: Number two singles Ruby Pierre battled the Fiji heat and brought home her first win in the tournament. She won 6-0, 6-0 against Telupe Lupeli from Tuvalu. Number one singles Tamara Anderson cruised through her match against Alesi Molotii 6-0, 6-0. In the doubles, another great battle took place but Pierre and Hosking-Ashford missed out on the win against Alesi and Telupe 4-6, 6-4, (9-11). Even with the loss in the doubles, Team Cook Islands took the win on the day against Tuvalu 2-1.
Men’s team’s tournament seeded teams: 1 Tahiti, 2 Cook Islands, 3 Samoa, 4 Fiji. 4 Pools: Pool A - Tahiti, FSM, Tuvalu, Pool B - Cook Islands, American Samoa, Vanuatu, Pool C- Samoa, Fiji Development, Kiribati, NMI, Pool D - Fiji, Nauru, Norfolk Islands, Solomon Islands.
Women’s team’s tournament seeded teams: 1 Samoa, 2 Cook Islands, 3 Vanuatu, 4 Fiji. 2 Pools: Pool A - Samoa, Norfolk Islands, Fiji, American Samoa/Fiji Development. Pool B - Cook Islands, Vanuatu, Kiribati, Solomon Islands, Tuvalu.
