Stellar start for basketball women

The Cook Islands' veteran-savvy overwhelmed a young Samoa side in the Women's Division of the 2018 Polynesian Cup to take a commanding 80-47 victory in their opening match on Sunday.

 

The ladies in green kept their defensive pace high, hounding the host nation with their full-court pressure defense.

Keziah-Brittany Lewis led a balanced attack with 19 points while her sister Adoniah Lewis and Jordina Katu added 12 and 10 points each.

Cherish Manumaleuga Aufui Sau scored a team-high 16 points in a losing effort and Aufui Sau added 11 points of her own.

On day two of the Cup the Cook Island’s continued their winning start against Tahiti yesterday afternoon, downing them 53-35.

Keziah-Brittany Lewis was top scorer again on 15 points at the final buzzer.

The team next take-on American Samoa in the next of their Group Phase A games tomorrow in Apia.

In other first round games played Tahiti defeated American Samoa in a thrashing 106-32.
