And their return was timed perfectly for the start of gymnastics classes on Monday.
The plan is for the gymnasts to perform in Christmas on the Park in December, implementing skills and activities learned at the symposium.
The aim of the trip was to educate the coaches in “best practice and innovative, internationally-recognised gymnastics coaching methods in the discipline of gymnastics for all, catering to people of all ages, abilities and genders.”
An additional aim was to network and establish sustainable relationships with clubs and coaches from New Zealand and Australia.
The symposium was attended by coaches and member clubs of Gymnastics New Zealand and a guest presenter from Gymnastics Australia.
The coaches returned to Rarotonga brimming with new ideas to integrate into the programmes on island, starting with the FreeG programme at Tereora College with the Year 9 students.
FreeG is a pathway programme to the International Gymnastics Federation’s newest GymSport of Parkour.
