Apii Avarua is likely to retain the Prince of Wales trophy after putting in a strong performance in the annual Prince of Wales Athletics Championships yesterday.

The school, which has held the trophy for the past six years, put on a dominant performance at the National Stadium in Nikao.

However, the other schools were equally impressive in some track-and-field events and gave the defending champions a good run for their money. The final results were not available when this edition went to print yesterday.

The Prince of Wales Athletics Championships presented junior athletes from the island’s primary schools an opportunity to showcase their talents and strengths in both track-and-field events.

The championships were contested by students from 11 primary schools from across the island.

Apii Avarua hosted the event alongside the major sponsor Cook Islands Trading Corporation (CITC).
