The second of this year’s ACI Road Running Series races saw a solid turnout of runners.

Nine took up the Wednesday-afternoon challenge, which was billed as a training session for the lead-up to the Round Rarotonga Road Race in September.

Runners were given their choice of four distances, with three-kilometre, five-kilometre, six-kilometre and nine-kilometre options to choose from.

Event organiser Thomas Henderson said it was a fun group of runners who took part on Wednesday.

“We had a couple who are training for Round Raro and those who are wanting to get fit, as well as those who just needed to tick over the legs for a bit of exercise,” he said.

First over the finish line for the three-kilometre option was Rodger Harkness, who chased down William Tommy 200 metres from the end.

Malan Stephens crossed first in the five-kilometre option, while Thomas Henderson led from start to finish ahead of father Kevin in the nine-kilometre battle, which included an easy four-kilometre surge up part of the famed Hospital Hill.

Next Wednesday’s event will start outside the Spaghetti House at the Edgewater Resort and Spa, with a variety of distances again on offer for those wishing to take part.
