Bright and early yesterday morning, 38 cyclists took part in the inaugural Air New Zealand Runway Time Trial.

Aaron White from New Zealand won the male title, in a time of six minutes, 29 seconds, ahead of Henry Hale in second.

Local Alyce Edwards comfortably won the women’s title, 40 seconds ahead of Lucy McDonald in second place.

At the time of going to print yesterday, the Tour De Raro was underway with cyclists racing the 31.2km coastal road, starting outside of Vonnia’s and heading clockwise around the island. Results from this race will be in tomorrow’s paper.

The time trial was part of the week-long triathlon festival, with the Matutu Mile to round out the activities this afternoon.
