Team Cook Islands is just one gold medal away from breaking its last gold medal record haul as the teams medal tally continues to tick over at the PNG Pacific Games.

The team is also one medal away from breaking its largest Pacific Games medal haul record.

After winning two gold and two silvers on the lawn bowls green and discus net, Team Cook Islands now has a total 20 medals including five gold, three silver and 12 bronze medals.

At the 2007 Pacific Games in Samoa – Team Cook Islands returned home with 20 medals including the highest haul of five gold medals.

With golfers in the full swing of their tournament, lawn bowlers back on the green for the second part of their tournament, beach volleyball brothers Brendan and Daniel Heath in the quarter finals of their competition and netball still in the hunt – the likelihood of the medal haul record tumbling is high.

Team Cook Islands will wrap up their Pacific Games sports competition on Saturday when the final medal tally will be confirmed before the games’ closing ceremony.
