Under a blazing PNG sun the brothers faced New Caledonia in their first match of the games.
It was a shaky start for the pair with their own errors adding to the challenge of the heat and tough opponents.
The New Caledonia pair edged out the local brothers 23-21 before the Cooks pairing began to relax and really get into the match to take out the second set 22-20 and force a tie breaker match.
Keeping their cool, the Heath brothers managed to stick their spikes and serves and get under the skin of their opponents who began to crumble under the pressure.
With momentum on their side the Cooks duo slammed home a 15-8 tie breaker match win.
As Brendan lives in Rarotonga and Daniel in New Zealand, the brothers have spent a few days in PNG working on their game plan and with one winning match under their belts – the duo a sure to become stronger as the competition wears on.
The pair were due to play two games today and were looking forward to more solid and less error ridden wins in the tournament.
