Pacific Sporting Partnership project manager Ivan Harré and former Silver Ferns player and coach Waimarama Taumaunu will visit the Cook Islands to continue their support for Netball Cook Islands and the PSP programme.

Former Silver Ferns captain and coach Taumaunu was in Rarotonga earlier in the year, delivering a workshop for the island’s teachers.

While here next month, Taumaunu will also coach two specialist defensive sessions for National Netball Academy players.

All netball coaches and parents are invited to attend the sessions, with the first to be held next Wednesday, September 20 at Tupapa and the second in Arorangi on Friday, September 22.

Harré and Taumaunu will also meet with Netball Cook Islands executives and delegates from clubs while they are here.

Items on the agenda include a child protection policy to be delivered during the meeting.

A trip to Aitutaki is also on the agenda for further netball development.

Both Harré and Taumaunu are scheduled to deliver coaching workshops and meet with Aitutaki Netball and members of the island’s local clubs.

Pacific Sporting Partnership country coordinator John Glassie said having a coach of Waimarama’s standard visiting an outer island was exciting for netball.

“What an amazing opportunity to have a coach of Wai’s caliber and experience. (She) continues to provide advice and develop netball in the Cook Islands. Wai has a lifetime of netball high performance knowledge that she uses when delivering coaching workshops.

“I am very grateful to Netball NZ and the Pacific Sporting Partnership for bringing Wai here."
