Atiu scores $95,000 in football equipment

Cook Islands Football Association has funded a range of equipment for the different Rarotonga clubs and different island associations in the Cook Islands.

The funding is through FIFA forward special projects and the initiative is part of football development in the country.

The most recent to receive their equipment was the island of Atiu.

The Atiu Football Association received a variety of equipment including aluminium goal posts, marquees, a ride-on lawn mower, a single-cab truck, balls, playing uniforms, training equipment, line markers, a barbecue set to a total value of $95,000.

The equipment will be used to raise and develop the level of football on the island of Atiu.

CIFA representative Lai Gukisuva was in Atiu to handover the equipment.

“All of this is done for the development of the children of Atiu,” Gukisuva said, adding on behalf of CIFA president Lee Harmon, “CIFA is committed to helping Atiu Football with equipment and developing football players”.

Atiu Football president, Teariki Maurangi, thanked CIFA for their generosity in providing so much equipment for the island and promoting and developing the beautiful game.

The dedication of the equipment took place at the Atiu School in Mapumai.
