Today, they will face each other at Turangi Oval in a battle for top place in the men’s division.
In round one competition on Saturday, Turangi hosted Takuvaine while Tupapa played Tavana at home.
Turangi won the toss and elected to bat, scoring 200 for 4 in 20 overs. Middle order batsman Vane Tangimetua Jr was the top scorer after knocking 43 runs.
In reply, Takuvaine who played with eight players only were all out for 110 in 12th over, giving Turangi a 90-run win.
Tupapa also recorded a big win against minnows Tavana.
After winning the toss, Tavana chose to bat and were all out for 53 runs in 13 overs.
Tupapa easily reached the target with three down to record a massive seven wicket win.
Cook Islands Cricket chief executive Davis Teinaki said the match between Turangi and Tupapa will be an interesting one.
“But its hard to predict which team is better than the other because its early into the season and maybe after the fourth round, it will become a bit clear who are the top bets,” Teinaki said.
Tupapa will be led by the likes of skipper Kunta Ritawa, veteran Wayken Punga and opener Parker Daniel.
Turangi has the likes of Vane Tangimetua Sr, Mapu Maoate, Vane Jr as well as their Indian imports Arun Kumar and Kannan Mathukkalai.
In the other men’s matches which starts at 3pm today, Arorangi will host defending champions Matavera, Nikao will play Tavana at home while Takuvaine will battle Muri at the Happy Valley.
