It will be a clash of the titans affair today when top of the table (men’s) teams, Nikao and Matavera, go head to head in the Rarotonga club competition.

The round five feature match will be held at Nikao Field.

Nikao enters this clash with heads high after an upset win against defending champions Tupapa. Experienced players such as Deacon Teapa, Melody Melota, Nooroto William, Teokoitu Pana and Patiiamai Ataela will be key for Nikao.

Ray Roumanu will lead the Matavera team which has the likes of inform batsmen Ben Vakatini, Bobby Hansen and Osolai Akai to pile on the runs.

In bowling, Iro Maroroa and Moni Uini will be at the forefront of their attack.

“Both teams are equally balanced in fire-power, skills and knowledge of the game. It will definitely be one hell of a game to watch. Be there on time to watch this spectacular unfold,” said Cook Islands Cricket chief executive officer Davis Teinaki.

In the other men’s match, Arorangi will host Nikao II at Raemaru Park

“Arorangi’s equation is simple, win all their remaining games to have a chance in the top four playoff.  With all their big guns available to play on Saturday, Arorangi will be out there to do some damage,” Teinaki said.

However, he said the never say die Nikao II will also have plan in place to prove them wrong.

“There is no easy ride out there,” said Ripper Tauia of Nikao II. “Arorangi really have to come and get it from us. We can spoil the fun for them.”

Tavana after the big win last week will take on defending champions Tupapa.

“It was really a morale booster for the team (Tavana) getting their first win in the campaign. The legend and skipper Captain Moko will be in charge leading the way to ensure his team will have a good go at Tupapa Panthers,” Teinaki said.

At the Happy Valley, Takuvaine will host Tupapa II in another interesting men’s battle.

In the women’s competition, Avana will face Tupapa in the main clash at Nukupure Park.

Both teams will want a win after defeats last week.

Avana will look for inspiration from their skipper Margaret and Josephine Monga.

“This is a very promising young team that draws the attention of the cricket community. If they continue to play the way they are playing at the moment they could go all the way,.

The Avana II side will travel to Nikao to face the home team in the other women’s match.

Avana II will be led by Lina Taufahema and Enua Peyroux. After a bye last week, the team is eager to get in action.

Takuvaine and Matavera will battle it out at Happy Valley. Takuvaine will need win if they want to progress into the playoff.

Matavera is in hot form at the moment, especially after their upset win against defending champion Turangi.
