Defending champions Tupapa (men’s) and Turangi (women’s) made a winning start to their campaign after overcoming their opponents in round one.
The two teams are expected to maintain their winning start when Tupapa takes on Tupapa II at Victoria Park while Turangi will play Takuvaine in the match of the week at Happy Valley.
“In the women's draw, Turangi is likely to continue their dominance as the champion side against a very competitive Takuvaine side while the two Avana side go head to head this week. Tupapa women's will play their first game this week as they had a bye last week,” said Davis Teinaki, the chief executive officer of Cook Islands Cricket.
In the men’s competition, Matavera versus Arorangi match at Matavera Field will be the feature clash of the week.
“Arorangi last week showed they have the players to topple any team in the competition,” Teinaki said.
He also said despite a good side, Tupapa would not take their number two team lightly this weekend at Victoria Park.
“In the Nikao derby, rumours from sensible sources that Nikao II have the edge against their number one side. Turangi from a brilliant performance last week will do battle against Takuvaine,” he said.
“It was a great start to the season last week (first round of the competition), tomorrow (today) will be even better as all teams are now in competitive mode.
“We are asking all fans, families to support their respective clubs and come and witness some spectacular cricket games this summer.”
All the teams are requested to be at the venue on time for their games.
