Both teams have won two matches so far. Titans and Avana, the new teams in the men’s competition, have 10 points each.
In round three competition on Saturday, Titans defeated Takuvaine by 31 runs at the Happy Valley. The visitors elected to bat first, posting 131 runs for nine in 20 overs.
In reply, Takuvaine were all out for 100 runs in 19.2 overs.
Titans’ player Matt Beasley said they were pleased with the good start to their 2016 campaign. The side defeated 2015 champions Turangi in their opening clash in round two.
In the other weekend match, Avana played Arorangi at Raemaru Park and escaped with a lucky five-run win.
Avana batted first and were all out for 78 runs and in reply, Arorangi just fell short after amassing 73 for all out.
In the other men’s clash in round three, Tupapa I took on defending champions Turangi in a repeat of last year’s showdown. Tupapa I chose to field, sending Turangi to the crease to bat.
Turangi scored 175 runs for all out in the 18th over and Tupapa I managed 150 runs before losing all their wickets.
Muri Creeps versus winless Matavera match didn’t last long after a poor display from the latter in the opening innings.
Matavera won the toss and elected to bat, but were all out for 20 runs in nine overs.
The Creeps easily matched the target without losing any wickets, recording a 10-wicket win.
In the other men’s clash, Tupapa II defeated Nikao at Nikao Field.
In the women’s competition, Muri and Avana continue their good form in the early rounds of the league.
Round four games will be played this Saturday.
