After fine performances officiating in last season’s men’s and women’s Rarotonga cricket season, members of the Rarotonga Cricket Umpires Association (RCUA) have the nervous task of preparing for their level 2 and 3 umpires certification this weekend.

The Motor Centre-sponsored umpires association’s presence on the cricket field was a welcome sight last year as their professionalism resulted in a significantly improved standard of competition this past season,  something that crickets chief executive officer Alister Stevic is very enthusiastic about.

“Producing winning national cricketers involves three main ingredients: quality coaching, quality facilities and quality umpired competitions,” says Stevic.

The RCUA members will be anxiously spending the week poring through their educational resources ahead of their two-part practical and theory exam on Saturday.

It is expected that 14 local umpires will do their certification this weekend with umpires association co-coordinator Nauma Atiau saying that level 1 courses will be open to the community in the coming months.

If you are interested in doing a level 1 cricket umpires course please contact Umpires Association coordinators Nauma Atiau 56393 or Oliver Syme 22055.
