Cook Islands Cricket’s junior cricket season will swing into action on Monday January 19, just in time to get the kids motivated for the start of the school year the following week.

The Boomtown junior cricket season has age groups for kids under 7 (mixed), under 9, under 11 and under 13 for both boys and girls.

For this year, the junior cricket action will take place at the Muri field with a free bus pickup and drop off.

Cook Islands crickets CEO Alister Stevic says that establishing a structured junior cricket is a priority for Cooks cricket this year and the association is excited to have received a lot of support for junior cricket.

“The support we have received has meant we can provide a really fun and enjoyable junior cricket competition, The Computer Man, Hori Signs, Cricket Express, Tim Buchanan,  AERO Cricket, the International Cricket Council, Northern Districts Cricket, the clubs including Muri CC and the Rarotonga Cricket Umpires Association have all chipped in one way or another to ensure we can provide a fun competition.”

The support means Cook Islands Cricket can provide a free bus service, free barbecue lunches and a free junior cricket bat for each child as well as providing all the playing equipment, uniform tops, umpires, scorers and helpers to ensure a fun, action-packed four days of cricket.

Stevic says they have established an incentivised programme to encourage and benefit the clubs that get involved. The teams are eight-a-side and inexperienced kids will be provided plenty of support and encouragement to ensure they have success.

Anyone wanting to register their children or put a team together can phone Cook Islands Cricket on 20744 or 55740 or get in touch with their local cricket club.

A bus timetable and schedule of the competition days and times will be printed next week.
