He is everything that the members of parliament need to be. Its people like George Maggie that builds this country. I agree with everything Maggie says in the newspaper. We must all remember it’s not the educated people that makes this country, its people like George Maggie that make this country. We should be praising Maggie, not criticizing him because he has proved to the people of Tupapa that he can do what a Member of Parliament can do and look after their people. Tupapa have no problem with him, he treats his people and looks after his village. The Tupapa street should be named after him.
OLD SYSTEM BEST
Parking at the airport used to be four easy steps. One, park. Two, greet or farewell people. Three, return to one’s car and drive to the booth at the carpark exit. Four, pay the nice lady in the booth $2 or $0.50c. Much easier and much friendlier.
“After reading a story in CINews last week. I would like to cancel my booking on the party bus and rebook on the booze cruise with a certain fishing company,” a cheeky smoke signaller says.
WHOPPER WHALE TALE
The story of whale researcher Nan Hauser’s underwater encounter with a whale back in July last year hit the internet big time a week or two ago and has gained a life of its own, with some newspaper websites playing hard and loose with the facts. However the most weird version we’ve seen so far was published on a website called Turbo News. It changes both her nationality and the country where she mostly lives (the US). The headline is “Tiger shark about to kill German when whale came to her rescue.” The story reads: “Her name is Nan Hauser from Germany. She is 63 years old and in the Cook Islands. This picture of Nan Hauser, 63, shows how the massive sea creature pushed the whale biologist with his head and his mouth, then tucked her under its pectoral fin and even lifted her out of the water when a 15-foot tiger shark was lurking nearby. A 50,000-pound humpback whale pushed a snorkeler through the water to protect her from the shark nearby. As Hauser returned to the safety of the boat, the whale even came back to check on her. Hauser, who lives on the Cook Islands, said: ‘I wasn’t sure what the whale was up to when he approached me, and it didn’t stop pushing me around for over 10 minutes.’ The whale biologist said that she believes the moment reveals the whale’s intuitive instinct to protect another species of animal.”
TAXING DEMANDS ON PENSIONER
Recently an 86-year-old pensioner went along to the tax amnesty office to see where he stood with them, a smoke signaller says. “He was told he owed thousands, and the money was to be repaid at $100 a week. This demand was made of someone whose only income is a pension. Is MFEM resurrecting the odious backdating that Grey Power fought so long and hard against? Is government so desperate to boot revenue they’ve lost their perspective and their humanity?”
