Roads not so cool

“There’s no point having pretty scooters or cool racer motorbikes on this island,” an exasperated driver says. “Vehicle centres should only be selling quad bikes and off-road motorbikes since our back road is practically a dirt track, and sadly, our main road is hardly any better.”

And on the subject of tyre shops, a signaller had the misfortune yesterday to run over a steel rod buried in the mud bath that used to be his driveway. The long rod dug firmly into a front tyre and flattened it. “The jack supplied with the car wasn’t that good and my wife and I were having a hard time hoisting the car,” the smoke signaller said. “And then a Good Samaritan came to our aid in the form of our neighbour, Brian. He’d passed by earlier and noticed we were having difficulty, then returned on his motorbike to help us out. Thankfully he had the muscle power to get the jack working properly. It’s wonderful to know that there are still kind and helpful people like him in this world.”
