Another ‘VAT’ increase?

Disgruntled customer wants to know how a $3 increase on a tube of Zovirax is justified as a VAT increase, when the marked price on the packaging was $26.90 and the price charged was $29.90, with the till tape saying the VAT component was $3. When he questioned the price increase, the shop assistant pointed to a sign that said items with a white sticker would have the VAT increase added at the checkout. According to the customer the 2.2 per cent VAT increase should have been 22c – not the 11.2 per cent extra that was charged by the pharmacy.

Take me to the cleaners

Does anyone know where you can get dry cleaning done on the Rock? Seeing all the “pollies” in their suits and ties; they must get them dry cleaned somewhere here; unless, of course, they take all their laundry with them on their regular overseas trips…

Why no Demo conference?

What happened to the Demo Party Conference where the leadership and candidates receive the endorsement before the election? There was talk of a leadership challenge but that didn’t happen. The Demos launched its policies and website at the National Auditorium but I’ve only seen two pictures on our Facebook page. The website and manifesto look colourful but we really wanted to see pictures of our supporters. We want to know how we as a party are doing. Come on, Demo Media Team – show us pictures and tell us what’s happening. Remember, Our People, Our Priority….e tano ei.

Movie musings

A visitor on an extended holiday has been watching the posters outside the Empire with the thought of taking in a movie while she is here, but she notes that all of the movies advertised to date have been of the “shoot em up” kind, generally with a “busty blonde”. Surely, she thinks, there must be some other kinds of movies that will appeal to local audiences.

Left behind

A smoke signaler has a perfectly good and – in its day – top of the range Lumix camera with 12 power optical zoom and movie mode that has been left behind by the march of technology. It came with a 16MB SD card which was considered humongous in its day … but with a requirement for more storage he went in search of the maximum 2GB card acceptable to the camera. The smallest he could find on the Rock was 4GB in one outlet and 8GB in another! Looks like the camera is going to become a toy for the kids … but as most of them have smartphones with good cameras in, even they might not want it.
