The establishment of the library in Mauke is an initiative by the Cook Islands Library and Museum Society, a non-profit organisation based at Taputapuatea, Rarotonga.
I would like to add to your article, the names of the following people who also had a large part to play in the establishment, not just of Mauke’s Community Library but the one in Atiu also:
Sally Voss, Maria Henderson, Here Allan, Teresa Arneric and Patricia Metzker, who volunteered for many months (and continuing) to make the books ready for lending as well as the packing and arranging of the books to be sent to the islands.
While Cook Islands Rotary assisted with the signs it did not arrange transportation. Our thanks must go to CI Towage Ltd and Air Raro, who took the books freight free to Mauke. Without all of these people (and companies) the Mauke library (and the one in Atiu) would not have been possible.
