Thanks for our health services

Thursday May 23, 2019 Published in Letters to the Editor

It is not often that I publicly write to address matters at hand, especially since most letters reflect negative or unacceptable situations. However, most outer islands have many challenges delivering health services.

Here in Aitutaki, we have been extremely fortunate to have been blessed for the past 2-3 years with a fabulous person, who also happened to be highly qualified in his profession, our Dentist Dr. Joe Rusaquoli. We thank the Ministry of Health for hiring and sending us Dr. Joe,who unfortunately, recently left our island to pursue higher education and training. We wish Dr. Joe and his family the best for their future and pray they may return to our island someday.

We also pray and trust the Ministry of Health will be able to find a suitable replacement for our dentist in Aitutaki in due time. And we thank them for recently sending over Dr.Nio who saw many patients in Dr. Joe’s absence. Great work Dr. Nio.

Meanwhile we have to thank the Aitutaki Hospital and Rarotonga Hospital doctors , nurses, administrators and all  staff involved at health services for coordinating the recent cardiology and pacemaker teams from New Zealand, who saw many of our patients in Aitutaki, Rarotonga and several of our outer islands. This brings the best  specialists home to us and saves many days and costs of travelling to New Zealand to see these qualified specialists. Bravo and huge meitaki atupaka. God Bless you ALL for your continued support in providing us with the best health care services possible. We sometimes take for granted our health care professionals who here and serving us every day, 24 hours a day. We should have a health care appreciation day for them all.

Meitaki atupaka to all of you for being there for us.
