Sacrificing a taonga of the Cook Islands for such a short term gain is madness as once they’re gone, the pa’ua may never come back. Shame on the council members for their arrogance and utter failing in their guardianship role.
I sincerely hope that common sense prevails and the Island Council listens to the Ministry of Marine Resources advice to leave them alone.
You would think the severe depletion of Aitutaki pa’ua would serve as a warning against overharvesting. Come on AIG do the right thing.
