Govt ignores the majority

Friday May 11, 2018 Published in Letters to the Editor

Dear Editor,

A number of decisions made by this present government over the last two terms of parliament have affected some, if not all Cook Islanders and were enacted despite serious protestations from various sectors of the public.

This is another in a series of letters highlighting those decisions:

Purse seine fishing: The decision by government to allow purse seine fishing in Cook Islands waters was again the subject of serious protests and a petition to parliament to reverse this decision.

As per previous appeals to reverse the decision the government again ignored the wishes of the majority and signed the deal with the European Union.
