Dear Editor, With our general elections about seven weeks away it seems to me that it would be an appropriate time to run a national public opinion poll.

This is something both Australia and New Zealand (and most other democracies) do prior to their elections through the likes of the Colmar Brunton and Roy Morgan Opinion Polls.

The cost would be minimal by simply phoning a representative sample of voters in each island and asking a number of relevant questions – national questions and questions relevant to the constituency or island.

The questions could include: Preferred Party, Preferred Prime Minister, opinion on the current TCI monopoly, VAT, Te Mato Vai (for Rarotonga voters), electoral reform, tax on pensions etc.

I am sure that a well constructed and conducted survey would provide your paper with informative views and opinions to run in many issues and increase your sales.
