Rain expected until tomorrow

OCCASIONAL rain is expected to be felt in Rarotonga until tomorrow (Thursday).


Cook Islands Meteorological Service, Director Arona Ngari predicts rain will persist for at least today and tomorrow with some heavy showers expected.

Ngari said the weather was also expected to be cooler than normal.

“There is also a trough of low pressure moving southeast over the Southern Cooks while an associated trough moves to the west over the Northern Cooks.”

He said some showers with easterly winds will also affect the Northern Cooks and there will be cloudy periods with some showers for the Southern Cook Islands. According to the meteorological office official weather website, a strong wind warning is in force over southern Cooks waters and low pressure approaches Northern Cooks from the east. The forecast to midnight tomorrow for the Southern Cooks sees Easterly winds of 20 to 25 knots with rough seas and moderate to fresh southeast winds over land. While Rarotonga will continue to get brief showers, the Northern Cook Islands will also experience rain over Manihiki and Penrhyn.
