It was Telecom. Then it was Bluesky. Now it’s Vodafone. Confused? Don’t be – the company that once was blue is now working very hard to sell it’s new red brand.

The morning after the reveal of Bluesky’s rebranding to Vodafone, a “family fun-day” was held at Te Atukura grounds to welcome in the news.

A big part of the challenge was to explain that actually, it was the same people providing the same service and the same product – just clad in a different colour uniform. To do that, they had to reassure people who blamed any internet or mobile phone problems yesterday on the new, international Vodafone “takeover”.

So red-clad Vodafone staff got out the guitars and ukuleles to provide entertainment.

The rainy weather didn’t put a damper on spirits.

For the kids, the events offered games, face-painting (preferred colour, red), bouncy castles and an archery tournament, with free ice cream and candy floss dispensed nearby for a sugar energy boost.

For the adults, the attraction was more the bonus phone data credit deals and WiFi specials.
