Busy and productive year: PM Puna

Monday December 24, 2018 Written by Published in Politics

This year as a country has been a bountiful year and as your Prime Minister I am very pleased looking back on so many things that we have achieved. But most of all, that you have had a year where you have seen growth, whether it be in your business, in life or in your family, and where you have had the time to enjoy this little paradise we all call home.

That you have seen God’s providence in your life, and that he has prospered you and your families. My prayer for you all is that he may continue to guide and provide for your life and that after a very busy and productive year, you too can now enjoy a time of well-deserved rest.

As Christmas fast approaches, and as we busily prepare for this holiday season it is a time of spending time with family and especially with those we love. This is the essence of Christmas and for us as Cook Islanders, why so many of our people come back to the Cook Islands, or come for the first time, as family reunions and gatherings gather momentum, and houses fill as does the laughter and joy of seeing and being with those we love.

But let us remember, that it is also a time when we celebrate the birth of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ born in a manger, and his coming into the world in Bethlehem so many years ago. And that his birth would usher in God’s wonderful plan for salvation so that we all could live our lives with a sense of divine purpose and of knowing him in everything we do and in all that we are.

This is the reason for the season, the reason why we have this holiday period, the reason why we exchange gifts, why we come together; to celebrate the greatest gift of all; our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.

So may I take this time to wish you all a very Merry Christmas, and a Happy, prosperous and bountiful New Year.

Kia Manuia i te Kirimiti e te Mataiti Ou.

Henry Puna, Prime minister and Mrs Akaiti Puna
