Te Tiare is swinging back into action with a fun day out for supporters of the Pride Cook Islands campaign, featuring social golf, food, live music and a rainbow-themed dress code.

A golf ambrose, Fore Pride, has been organised for Friday July 24 by Te Tiare Association, the body that represents the Cook Islands’ LGBT+ community.

Te Tiare is leading the Pride Cook Islands campaign to end the ongoing criminalisation of same sex relationships.

Te Tiare president Valery Wichman said the event would be a fun and social way to gather supporters after an eventful few months.

“Everyone’s due a bit of fun after the start we’ve had to 2020,” Wichman said.

“Our event is open to all so come and join us! You don’t have to be a golfer to get into the swing of things. Pull together a team of friends and family, get dressed in your fabulous best rainbow colours, and come out and enjoy the atmosphere.”

Covid-19 interrupted Te Tiare’s plans to hold Cook Islands' first Pride Day in March. The event will go ahead at a later point this year, said Wichman.

“We’re powering up our decriminalisation campaign once again as MPs are due to consider the Crimes Bill in just two months’ time. The laws that criminalise our rainbow community have to go.”
