Cook Islands Fishing Club members were glad to finally catch up over a few cold ones over the weekend.

The Tupapa club has been closed for about a month due to Covid-19 restrictions and on Saturday received the green light to resume service, though only until 6pm.

Club executive member Don Beer said they had a good crowd of regular members at the club.

“Every member were excited to get back to the club. We haven’t seen each other for about four weeks and it was good to meet again,” Beer said.

“We enjoyed our afternoon and we had a lot of catching up to do.”

Beer said the club would remain open from 1pm to 6pm until the Liquor Licensing Authority extended the opening hours.

He said the opening hours suited their retired members but not the ones who were working.

“We have some members who finish work around 4 or 5pm so they are not able to get enough time to enjoy their favourite beverages with their friends and fellow members.

“But the government has to do what it has to do during this time and we understand that.”

I don’t understand how it’s only till 6pm when I’m pretty sure there are other establishments that sell alcohol way after 6pm!? I don’t see a difference whether it’s with food or not
