Yellowfin tuna are definitely out there and biting with a striking 73kg beauty landed just last week.

Just weighed, the tuna reeled in by Shane Bell towered over his grinning son at Avatiu Harbour after a day out with Wahoo Fishing Charters, and skipper Wayne Stewart.

“It felt awesome, this is the biggest fish I’ve ever caught, it feels really good,” said Bell.

The yellowfin was hooked just three miles out on the Arorangi side of the island and took only 20 minutes to reel in.

Wahoo Fishing Charters said it was their heaviest yellowfin caught to date and promises its local knowledge gives clients the best chances of a big catch.
