The Vainekeus won the $30000 Nukutere College Monster raffle drawn on Friday evening at the school grounds,  and are pictured receiving their cheque yesterday afternoon.

The second prize winner ($20,000) Nien Tua is from the island of Mauke, and third placed Tuvaine Ibbetson collected $10,000.

Chairperson of the college Parents Teachers Association (PTA) Munokoa Purea said close to $185,000 was raised from the raffle, after deducting the prize money.

“We were close to our target, and most tickets sold within the last three days of the raffle being drawn.”

Funds raised from the school gala held on the same day reached $15,000, said assistant chairperson Eddie Drollet.

The school’s new building currently under construction is scheduled to open in early July.

Purea thanks the Catholic community on the island, the Pa Enua, Auckland and to everyone who contributed in any way to the fundraisers.
