Two cruise ships are scheduled to visit Rarotonga and Aitutaki respectively this month.

On March 12, Paul Gaugain is slated to call in at Rarotonga followed by Crystal Symphony on March 13.

Crystal Symphony  will stopover at Aitutaki on March 12 before visiting Rarotonga. Paul Gaugain will also visit Aitutaki on March 13.

The last cruise ship visit for February came in form of Costa Luminosa which visited Rarotonga on Wednesday.

Cook Islands Tourism director of destination development Metua Vaiimene said the Italian cruise liner visited the island as part of a round trip world tour beginning and ending in Venice.

Vaiimene said Wednesday was their day 54 of 112 of this world cruise.

“There are approximately 2800 passengers on board the Costa Luminosa, along with approximately 1000 crew,” he said.

“An estimated 2500 people disembarked and were on a range of different tours including: circle island tour, nature walk, safari tour, and lagoon cruise.  The age group was elderly – between 50 and 70 years old, mostly from Europe.”

The Costa Luminosa was at Moorea, French Polynesia, before coming to Rarotonga and headed to New Zealand from here, Vaiimene said.

“Some passengers told me that they tried to stop at Easter Island along the way but due to bad weather they were unable to disembark, so we are thankful for the fine weather which has allowed the boat to stop and passengers to enjoy our little paradise.”
