Catechist renewal training run by the Catholic church has drawn a large number of people from Rarotonga and the outer islands.

Representatives from Aitutaki, Atiu, Mangaia, Mauke, Mitiaro, Pukapuka and Rarotonga are attending the two-week course that began on Monday January 7.

Bishop Paul Donoghue says the course has been excellent so far and adds that the participants have been fully engaged with training delivered by Sister Rosaline.

Tapuni Rau from Atiu is attending catechist training for the third time and says it’s enjoyable.

“We are enjoying the guidance and teaching and are learning further instruction methods.”

Catechists from the island of Atiu attending the training are Tapuni and Anna Rau, Tapuni William and Tuainekore William, Kau Henry and Sonia Henry, Tai Tou and Lucy Tou, Melafi George and Father Faustino Galo.

Topics covers a range of subjects including the Eucharist, the role of the catechist as a teacher, confession, and the future of the diocese.
