It’s ‘shootouts’ at the Sheraton

What better way to make use of the abandoned hotel at Vaimaanga than to have teams of paintballers running around its concrete structure firing paint-filled pellets at each other?

The patrons of Paintball Kukis not only love the excitement of shooting at friends, but also having a such an atmospheric environment in which to inflict some pain and humiliation on their opponents.

And, be in no doubt, the pellets do sting when they hit and can leave marks on the body and paint splodges on clothing and walls.

Safety is a major concern for Danny Raina, who co-owns Paintball Kukis with his brother Nga, and masks and flak jackets are compulsory.

Because of the potential danger of being hit in the face by a coloured pellet players must wear masks at all “live” times and until they are told they can remove them. That even includes a photographer who has wandered in to grab some shots of the guys in action.

The combatants also have to wear black flak jackets.
