It’s a hard one to miss – it’s a bright yellow food truck, Cook Takeaway, located near the road of food stalls. Manager Sarah Bigot was born in France and has lived in Rarotonga for the past year. She sells meals from the countries she has lived in or visited including France, the US and the Cook Islands.
Dishes on offer include French crepes filled with local ingredients including rukau and bananas. There are also American hot dogs and toasted sandwiches which include a “secret” nutmeg sauce recipe. A selection of cold drinks is also available.
Owner Terry Rangi says he wanted to offer something new, tasty and not too expensive for customers. Cook Takeaway is open six days, Mondays 10am to 3pm and 4pm to 8pm, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays 8.30am to 2pm and 4pm to 8pm, Thursdays and Saturdays 8.30am to 2pm. Every Wednesday they also have a happy hour from 4pm to 6pm where they sell sugar crepes for $2. You can also find the business on Facebook – Cook Takeaway Rarotonga.
The market is open from 8 am to 12 noon on Saturdays and a few stalls and huts are also open during the week. BSP bank has an ATM there on Saturdays and Bluesky has a stall where you can top up your mobile phone. An island show sponsored by Highland Paradise is held at the market every Saturday and usually starts around 10.30am.
