The Tropical Christmas Club was formed during the 2013 downturn to help bring the excitement of Christmas back to Rarotonga.
A committee was established with a group of people from the retail and tourism sectors, including representatives from Rotoract, the Mongoose Club and CIs Tourism who were keen to support and promote the joy of Christmas.
Two years ago, with the backing of Air Rarotonga and Tamanu Beach, the committee was able to extend support to Aitutaki.
TCCC design and fix Tropical Christmas banners throughout town and ensure that the coloured lights are turned on during December, kindly supported by Te Aponga Uira.
An event calendar is also produced and published in the CI News for this month and provides weekly updates on upcoming events.
They also make arrangements for Santa and Elfie to share out lollies in town and the Punanga Nui market every Saturday morning leading up to Christmas.
Tonight Stan Walker and Lance Savali will perform at the National Auditorium for the family Christmas concert along with several local acts.
The Santa Parade starts tomorrow at 4pm.
On Saturday the Tinura Tapunui Music festival, hosted by most of the different churches on the island, starts at 1pm at the National Auditorium.
TCCC also assist Rotaract with their Christmas in the Park event, this will take place next Wednesday under the Dome at the National Auditorium.
There is also a free matinee movie screening organised at the Empire Theatre courtesy of the proprietors.
The first LED light show event was held last Saturday night that was popular with the kids.
Also new is a competition for church groups around the island to decorate their trees.
