As a regular visitor to the island I’m continually blown away by the random acts of kindness from locals.

When Round the Island bus driver Taomia Katuke was unable to break my $50 note last Tuesday night while I was travelling back from Muri to town, he generously dipped into his own pocket to pay the shortfall of my spare change - $3.00

Although it may not seem a lot, the happy and humble driver said it wasn’t the first time he’s done it, and I suspect he’s probably given out lots of gold coins to absent-minded tourists without the right fare in the past.

When I asked if he does it often, he just pointed skyward and said he’s always blessed from above: “God gives back.”

I did of course drop over to Cooks Corner the following day to pay him back and took a photo to share his kindness. Meitaki maata again, Taomia. - CT
