Island residents Huw and Sheryl John are looking for a home for a dog they have named “Rocket” which turned up at their Arorangi home a couple of weeks ago.

The couple, who are well known for their love of animals, fed the dog, had her desexed, de-wormed and given a flea treatment and bought a collar for her. They also had her “nails” cut. Now they need to find a new home for Rocket, who is about seven months old.

“We named her Rocket because she loves running around - she did the Raemaru Track with us,” says Sheryl.

“I have advertised six times on Facebook, but no-one knows her and I haven't found a ‘forever’ home for her yet.

“The SPCA is busy with dogs that need care so they couldn't take her, but I am sure someone out there would love this dog. She is so healthy.

“We would keep her if we didn't already have animals. She will make someone a great family pet and she is desperate to be loved. She is learning commands now. If anyone who likes running wants to have her, she will come running with you. She doesn't leave the yard without us, so she isn't going to be a wanderer if she is given a good home.

“She also wants to be a guard dog as well as a pet.”

“She’s a beautiful dog –intelligent and friendly, and just needs to go to someone who will care for it properly,” said Huw, when he bought the well-groomed dog in for a photo at CINews on Sunday. If you can offer Rocket a home, contact Sheryl or Huw on 58727.
