Beach-goers braving a breezy Muri beach on Sunday afternoon were treated to some excellent free entertainment from two locals perched on a platform in an ironwood tree.

KiteSUP owner Ina Nooroa and Meretiana Rapana blended their voices perfectly in a number of songs, with Nooroa providing guitar accompaniment

“We entertain people on the lagoon – and we entertain them from the trees,” quipped Nooroa.

The windy conditions made for good kite surfing weather and a couple of people made the most of the weather, zapping across the lagoon behind their colourful kites.

Elsewhere around the island, both locals and visitors flocked to the nearest beaches in search of some respite from the hot and humid weather. With water temperatures relatively high, cooling off was a tricky task and many chose to wait till late in the afternoon before taking a dip.
