A portable “pulse oximeter” which records oxygen levels in the blood and the heart and measures a patient’s respiratory rate was donated to Rarotonga hospital last week.

Punanga Tauturu Inc, Cook Islands Woman’s Counselling Centre coordinator Rebeka Buchanan is a special guest speaker at an Oceania Domestic Violence conference in Auckland organised by the chief executive of Friendship House in Manukau, Neil Denney.

Donation benefits two hospitals

The x-ray departments at Aitutaki and Rarotonga hospitals this week benefitted from generous donations of equipment.

A costume-themed Disney quiz night hosted by the Rarotonga Rotaract Club last Thursday night raised over $2000 for Te Vaerua Rehabilitation centre.

While the Cook Islands Nursing Association (CINA) hosted a successful Pacific Regional nurses meeting last week, the organisers failed to ensure standard government protocols were followed leading up to and during the opening ceremony, says Health secretary Dr Josephine Herman. 

The Cook Islands Nurses’ Association is made up of government employees and they are required to understand government procedures and protocols when it comes to the hosting of national or regional forums, says Health minister Rose Brown.
