William Taripo is calling on those who have been dumping their rubbish at the old Panama dump to “stop!”.

Taripo says Infrastructure Cook Islands provides a rubbish collection service and he did not understand why some people do not use this service.

Yesterday, Cook Islands News met Taripo at his taro plantation in Panama.

Close to his plantation, there was a pile of burnt rubbish bags and other garbage that included alcohol bottles, diapers and empty cans.

Taripo recently arranged T&M Heather contractors to clean the area.

“I have been trying my best to keep this area clean. It has been ongoing, this was the old Panama dump and people are still dumping rubbish here,” he said.

“They should put their rubbish beside the road and the rubbish truck collects it every week.”

Taripo said the culprits are driving to the area in the middle of the night and dumping their rubbish.

“We want to keep the place tidy and some selfish people come and throw their rubbish here.”

Taripo said if he did find anyone dumping rubbish in that area, he would make them clean up.
