A local primary school is advertising to recruit two teacher aides.

St Joseph’s Primary School is looking for teacher aides for the remainder of the 2020 academic year.

The school confirmed the vacancy was not a replacement drive as they have not lost any teachers due to the Covid-19 crisis.

It said they were adding more staff to help with the workload of the teachers at the school.

St Joseph’s said they were seeking individuals happy to share in their Catholic faith and were passionate about inclusive education.

“Being a team player is essential. Being able to move quickly with fast paced children would be an advantage.”

A teacher’s aide is a person who helps a teacher in a school classroom. The person is not a qualified teacher.

Other schools have lost staff in the travel restrictions. These include a Nukutere College teacher who moved to Australia.

And, last week, the departure of a New Zealand couple who both taught at Apii Te Uki Ou, after one of them, Grace Archer, became seriously ill with listeria.

The school has expressed the hope that Archer will make a full recovery and the “wonderful” couple will be able to return to their roles.
