Inalie Loki, 8, and Aaliyah Rogers, 6, have been home for the past two weeks thanks to Covid-19’s early school break.

Mum Salote Loki’s day job is running a kids’ club at a resort – but now, the resort has no guests.

So she has introduced some of the kids’ club activities for her daughter Aaliyah and niece Inalie, keeping them busy.

The girls are very adventurous, they both love their culture and dancing is a special favourite.

Marine day, too, is popular because they are close to the sea and the girls get to witness crab hunting.

“Sadly, we can’t get other children to join us, we need to be aware of social distancing, but we would have loved to get other children.”

This week included ‘coconut day’, when Inalie and Aaliyah made crafts using coconut leaves.

They also made ei katu and practised the ura dance on ‘cultural day’.

“This is what we do for a living so we decided to take our work activities home for the girls to keep learning new things and learn their culture,” Loki said.
